Black Oak Agricultural Society records, 1842-1925.

Records consist of a minute book, meteorological journals, accounts, and other items. Minute book (1842-1862) begins with a constitution and by-laws and includes reports on crops and crop experiments, "A paper on the subject of Meteorology in its connection with Agriculture" by Henry W. Ravenel, and other entries. Meteorological journals (1845-1925) kept by Thomas Porcher Ravenel and Henry W. Ravenel record daily weather observations. Some volumes have printed forms for the daily recording of three thermometer readings, barometer readings, winds, rain, and remarks (on the phases of the moon, killing frosts, snow, and other phenomena). Loose items include treasurer's accounts (1842-1844) for annual contributions; minutes of a meeting on April 24, 1861; a report (1849) of a committee inspecting Cooper River (S.C.) rice plantations; and a report on an experiment with potatoes.
